Sunday, February 7, 2016 is Super Bowl Sunday. Year after year, holiday after holiday business owners, entrepreneurs and Real Estate agents let this and other opportunities pass by without using the massive amount of social media traffic for their benefit and advertising.
Businesses couldn’t pay for the advertising that they can get for free by jumping in on the conversation about the Super Bowl. In 2015 265 million people commented about the Super Bowl on social media platforms. Let me start by sharing a few statistics with you about the 2015 Super bowl.
Social Media Engagement Of The 2015 Social Super Bowl
65 million unique people joined the Facebook conversation with 265 million posts, comments and likes, making it the most-discussed sporting event globally in 2015.
Likewise, it was the most tweeted Super Bowl so far, with 36 million tweets in between 3 hours before and after the game, and a crazy number of impressions: 2.5 billion.
There were 36 million tweets related to the Super Bowl, up from about 25 million last year, and they received 2.5 billion impressions, according to Twitter.
The conversation was most active on both platforms at the end of the game when New England sealed the victory with a last-second interception. Facebook said 1.36 million people per minute were discussing the Patriots’ win by the end of the game. Twitter calculated 395,000 tweets per minute on the interception.
Half the ads in the Super Bowl featured hashtags, while Facebook was mentioned four times.

We should all take note of this and put our brand, business or event right in the middle of the conversation. I am going to share these tips for Real Estate Agents since my primary industry is providing marketing and social media marketing for real estate Agents and Brokerages.
- Sunday Open House Event: Most open house events take place between the hours of 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Put your open house event in the middle of millions of users discussing the Super Bowl in your area. Decorate your open house with a few balloons of the teams, offer some Super Bowl party foods (chips, wings, wine…) and call it a Super Bowl Pre-game event. Engage the masses by using hashtags. #SB50 is the trending hashtag on Twitter this year, but use all of the trending hashtags when promoting your event. Use images of your property and add in balloons, decorations and Super Bowl food. If your open house is in Atlanta, GA you might want to hashtag #SB50Atlanta #SB50partyAtlanta #SuperBowl50Atlanta
- Write a blog post about how great it would be great to host a #SuperBowlparty in your new home. Make sure to write the article and give it substance. Make it appealing and geared towards homeownership. Make it capturing to the reader and put the article on your LinkedIn Pulse blog and your personal blog. Make sure to use appropriate tags and keywords.
- Create a video of people watching football. Take out your smartphone and shoot some shots this year and have them for next year. Plan your marketing strategically. Start taking video and images now of the Super Bowl party now so you will have them for next year’s event. This goes with all holidays.
- This is the time to pay for an Ad on Facebook or boosting a post with your promotion. Create a special sale of your brand or product and put it in the conversation on Twitter and Facebook. Create images with Super Bowl 50 images and start promoting your product. Create an ad and sponsor it. Remember in the ads or promote targeting you can target people with interests. Select Super Bowl and related interests. Again, in your product ad use the hashtag #SB50. What is better than a Super Bowl 50 sale!
- Take pictures at your open house event or inside your brick and mortar store is you are open having a Super Bowl sale. These are valuable for after game ride out of the event. You can play out the Super Bowl sale or event after the game. Get extra mileage from the game.
When a user types #SB50 in the search bar on Facebook or Twitter to enter the conversation about the game your ad or promotion will come up in the conversation. This strategy puts your open house event on Sunday right in the middle of the targeted conversation.
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
