FORT MYERS BEACH, FL – November 25, 2024 Press Release: Successful Return of the 34th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship

Fort Myers Beach, FL — November 25, 2024 — The 34th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship returned to Fort Myers Beach in spectacular fashion, attracting over 15,000 attendees to celebrate world-class artistry, creativity, and community spirit. Held from November 21-24, 2024, this year’s event drew enthusiastic crowds to experience the awe-inspiring work of 8 Master Sculptors and 10 Advanced Amateur Sculptors from 10 countries, each showcasing their extraordinary talents in sand sculpture.

Taking place across two dynamic locations, the Championship captivated visitors with its vibrant atmosphere and incredible displays. The main event, hosted at the DiamondHead Beach Resort, featured a breathtaking array of sand sculptures, drawing crowds to marvel at the stunning artwork. Attendees also enjoyed a wide range of food and beverage offerings, live entertainment, and Quick Sand demonstrations, turning the resort into an interactive art experience for all ages. For younger visitors, a dedicated sand play area was set up, allowing children to explore their creativity in the sand and have fun building their own masterpieces.

In addition to the main event, Old San Carlos Blvd came alive with live music at Bayside Veterans Park from noon until 7 p.m. daily. This secondary location provided a festive, family-friendly atmosphere where visitors could enjoy great tunes, enjoy back bay views, and soak in the lively spirit of Fort Myers Beach.

The Masters Division was a standout feature of the competition, showcasing the very best in sand sculpture artistry. The results are as follows:

Masters Division

·                     Sculptors Choice: Remy Hogard – “Roses of Bulgaria”

·                     3rd Place: Bruce Peck – “Ascension”

·                     2nd Place: Todd Pangborn – “Prevailing Winds”

·                     1st Place “American Champion”: Bruce Waugh – “Fish out of Water”

Semi-Pro Division

·                     Sculptors Choice: Brendan Schaffer – “Sand ta”

·                     3rd Place: Scott Tripplett – “They Went That Way”

·                     2nd Place: Darrell O’Conner – “Rising from the Rubble”

·                     1st Place “Florida State Champion”: Brendan Schaffer – “Sand ta”

People’s Choice Awards

·                     Master’s Division People’s Choice:

    • 1st: Delayne Corbett
    • 2nd: Todd Pangborn
    • 3rd: Bruce Waugh

·                     Semi-Pro Division People’s Choice:

    • Darrell O’Connor

Non-profit partners worked alongside commercial lot owners to provide additional parking, making the event easily accessible to all attendees. In addition, the non-profit partners raised valuable funds to support local causes while contributing to the success of the event. The beautiful weather added to the enjoyment, as families and friends spent quality time together, exploring the artistry and creativity on display.
