It is vital for business owners and entrepreneurs to keep their content safe, protected, and use it to drive traffic to their own sites instead of social media sites. Your website is your own real estate on the web. With all the recent social media censorship and sites banning users or completely shutting down, this information is more important than ever. If there were no social media sites how would you continue talking to your audience? Are you engaged regularly off of social sites?
At any moment you can see all your years of social media content disappear before your eyes.
Here are 5 tips to keep everything on your site and keep in touch with your audience. It is also a good idea to drive people to your house instead of a social site.
- Have a blog with availability for visitors to comment. Chat in your comments. I love using WordPress because of the ease of prescheduling a blog post. I can advertise in advance the coming blog and engage readers before the post goes up. It opens up great avenues of communication and builds a following.
- Be on your YouTube channel at your video when it goes up so you can engage in live comments in real-time. This is another way I love to interact with people. I advertise my upcoming video to start driving viewers to my channel. When they visit my channel they see my next video premiere scheduled. Viewers turn to subscribers because they want to catch the upcoming video. They will often start commenting and conversing with me before the premier video date. This is really powerful for engagement.
- Keep your email list/database up to date always. Do not let your list get stale or receive a lot of bounce backs. Ask your community for permission to keep them on your list. Do this on a 6 month or yearly basis. Do not keep emailing a 5-year-old list. My favorite engagement tip in email marketing is to get your email subscriber hungry for more of you. Copywriting is 80% of the success. I have a training on the Top 10 Tips For Successful Email Marketing.
- Set up an account on a microblogging site like Tumblr or Reddit to put out your information, posts, videos, or images. Set to receive comments.
- Turn your blog into a communication hub. There is one plugin I really like. It is called “Rumble Chat” and it will set up a live chat room right on your WordPress Blog. You can advertise scheduled chat times and invite your audience. I also like WPStream. You can live stream on your personal or business blog without using live on Facebook. You can advertise your live event on social media and never risk your content being removed or censored. Always drive your audience to connect and follow you on places other than social media sites.
I hope you will find these tips helpful. Perhaps they are things you have not thought of or implemented yet.
