6 Proven Strategies For Real Estate Agents to Gain Followers on Twitter

Social media has always been about one thing. Followers.  People base their entire business or brand on the public appearance of their number of followers. Over the years it has been proven that organic reach, engagement and follower accumulation are more effective when achieved naturally. This has come after many years of social media going through all of the buying likes and followers on various social media platforms. Now on Facebook not every page has the page like count visible on the page. As for Twitter you will always see the follower count. I would rather have a smaller group of followers that like, favor and ReTweet than to have a large follower account that does nothing.

The buying likes and followers frenzy came to a halt after most of the platforms put a stop to the purchase of fake likes, followers and subscribers. It is forbidden on most platforms. There are still users who spend money purchasing these and providers making millions providing the service. For most platforms it is against their TOS (Terms of Service) to purchase likes or followers.

Facebook has actually taken a strong stand by reducing reach to accounts that use paid followers. If you are not sure about the effects of this go to your Facebook page, go to Insights and get to your reach. Click in and you will see paid and organic sources and reach.

Here you go:

Be First!

A phrase we like to use in our companyy on a relative news post is “Get it here first!”  One reason we like that is it sets the tone and establishes the identity and authority that the person is on top of the latest news in their specific industry.  It let’s your followers know that you stay up-to-date with current world and local news,  events, and online trends. Think of what current events might apply to your brand and draft tweets specifically about those topics. They are powerful and get a high percentage of Favorites and ReTweets. You can almost bet if you get a ReTweet a Follow is coming next.

If you want to write a post and tie it in to a hot trending topic, go to the “trends” section of your Twitter homepage and see what’s happening.  You will get some great ideas by seeing what others are posting. Use the topic and tie it into your Tweet with a post or image.

You can also use sites like BuzzSumo (Our favorite site for analytics on social media) to find great content that others are sharing as well. BuzzSumo lets you find the most trending content for a specific topic.

The more recent and popular content you use, the better it will result in more Favors, ReTweets and Followers.

Keep Tweets Original To Twitter on This Platform.

Twitter loves original content.  Don’t use Hootsuite or other robotic posters that slam out your content across all channels. Make your Twitter content stay on Twitter and do not share it on your other platforms. For our clients our posts are always completely different from what is on Facebook and others.

Twitter doesn’t like sharing your Facebook or Instagram posts. Here’s proof. Have you ever noticed when you use the “share to Twitter” button from another Social Media Platform, Twitter will often cut-off your sentence and add a hyperlink to the original post.

Surprise!

You think you are saving time when truthfully, all those times you thought you were being strategic by sharing your Instagram pictures to Twitter,  you were actually posting a Tweet that looks bad and causing people to unfollow.

DO NOT USE HOOTSUITE and put the same content on every channel and do not post through your Instagram App to Facebook and Twitter.

Move Fast With Strategic Momentum

When a topic is trending and you are getting on the topic, there are tons of other users  doing the same thing. Only a handful will make it to the “Top Tweets” section. Strategically make it to the Top by having momentum fast. The quicker you can get people to like and retweet your post, the more likely it is to stand out above the rest.

Always have members of your team following you and helping you. Have them like and reshare the content as quick as they can.  The faster you get engagement on your post within the first 30 seconds; you may make it to the top tweets section. Tweets soar simply because the momentum of that tweet was strong fast.

Here is an example of riding on a trending topic of a given day and monetizing the millions of users. Let’s take for example National Puppy Day or “NationalPuppDay, which is coming on March 23, 2018. Who doesn’t love a cute cuddly puppy? Create a great image and tie it into your business. Brand the image and create a slogan that goes with your business and post it with hashtags on that day. Here is what I am going to do for my social media company. Look at the image below. 95 million impressions! WOW!  I own a social media company so I am going to use this.  “Don’t let your brand new business go to the dogs” Treat your business like a puppy. It takes a lot of work and care to grow it. 🐶  #NationalPuppyDay #NewBusiness #BusinessGrowth  PRO TIP: Make sure your images are branded, high resolution and attractive to get likes, ReTweets and follows.

Make the Tweet Worthy

Twitter users respond and engage with content they’re interested in or content that is pertinent to their industry. Research and find which topics related to your field are also popular on Twitter.

This does not mean to give up your brand voice or message and chase the next bright shinny object, it’s to take advantage of highly rated and visible trends, news and happenings that are related to your business. You can spin a post from a trending topic to a post relative to your business. PRO TIP: Make sure your images are branded, high resolution and attractive to get likes, ReTweets and follows.

The Right Trends

Get on the right trends and you will see your visibility, reach, engagement and followers increase. You can log into your Twitter account and see what is trending that day. There are a lot of Twitter trending sites that give you the changing trends by the hour. Most give you what is trending in 24 hours.

ReTweet and Respond to Tweets From Large Twitter User Accounts

A powerful tactic is to Favor or ReTweet industry specific Tweets from very large brand accounts. A good strategy is to reply to tweets posted by accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers. NAR, Realty Times, Inman, Realtor.com etc…

Continue to engage with those large brands. Eventually those big brands will follow small users back. You have to let them know you are a faithful follower and lover of their content.
